Ski Season 2017

While the 2017 season got off to a slow start conditions really picked up once August arrived with snow depth quickly picking up to over 150 cm of snow.

With Ski seaon for 2017 slowly drawing to a close there are still some opportunities to get up to Falls Creek and enjoy the good snow conditions that are still on the mountain.

The club is providing an excellent opportunity for members and guests to sample the great conditions that will exist into spring buy reducing bed rates to the summer bed rate from the 9 September on.

Falls Creek Summer Activities

Falls Creek Summer activities will kick off as soon as the snow season finishes or even before the season finishes in the case of the McKayos endure.

For a full program of summer activities at Falls Creek look on the Falls Creek Resort Management website.

McKayos Snow Dirt Road Enduro

From the summit of Mt McKay 22 kilometres to the shores of Lake Guy at Bogong Village. In between you have a ski resort, Alpine National Park and some of the country’s best single track.

Now picture bombing this with 300 other pinners all taking off in a mass start for a 1,750 metre total descent – that is the chaos part.

Australia’s only mass start, snow dirt road enduro returns to the slopes of Falls Creek once more. Taking off from the summit of McKay (Australia’s highest accessible point by car), riders will traverse the snowy peak, through single track, fire trails and the High Plains Road to the pristine shore of Lake Guy in Bogong Village.

This is one ride you will not experience get elsewhere.

Combining snow, dirt and road, the course takes riders 23 kilometres through snowy roads, single track (7 kilometres), fire trails and sealed mountain roads for a total descent of 1,750 metres. A mass start on snow is something that is not to be missed.

The Alpine Challenge

The Alpine Challenge is without doubt the toughest, most challenging, most spectacular and rewarding mountain trail run in Australia—if not the southern hemisphere.

The 100 mile course runners take in six major climbs with 7,600 metres of ascent and descent including Mt Feathertop, Mt Hotham, Mt McKay, Spion Kopje, Mt Nelse and Victoria’s highest mountain, Mt Bogong and four river crossings.

The 100 kilometre involves over 4,000 metres of ascent and descent.

Maintenance

Major maintenance items that are in full swing at the lodge include:

  • Replacement of two cracked double glazed windows in the dining room, one in room 8 and one in room 9. The replacement of these windows had to be delayed due to delays from the supplier.
  • Replacement of the toilet bowl in room 9.
  • Painting the outside of the lodge which had to be delayed until windows were replaced will have to wait until outside temperatures increase towards the end year.
