BSC Newsletter - Autumn 2018 PDF Print E-mail

Welcome to the Autumn 2018 Bogong Ski Club Newsletter.

Members are reminded that junior members can now join the club as full members from when they turn 18 years of age and  before they turn 21 years of age. It is up to members to ensure junior members of the family maintain their membership for five consecutive years preceding their application to qualify to become a full member of the club. Once turning 21 years of age children of full members are no longer eligible to stay at Bogong Ski Club as a junior member.

Member News

Kanchana Wilmot wife of Stuart Wilmot and Janelle Heatley partner of Tony Roddy are welcomed as new members of the club being the spouse or partner of existing members. Alexandra Hancock, Sam Loder, Tess Loder, Sarah Wedward, Nick Manson and Lucy Rouse are welcomed as new members of the club qualifying for membership from our junior member ranks.

Annual General meeting

The Annual General Meeting was conducted at 2.00pm on Saturday 24 March 2018 at The Vincent, 107-111 Victoria Avenue, Albert Park.

There were 32 members in attendance and most stayed for refreshments and canapés and catch up with fellow members after the meeting.

A copy of the minutes of the 2018 AGM is attached to this newsletter for your information.

The committee at the Club now comprises Peter Purcell (President & Maintenance), Richard Jowett (Secretary), Graeme Obst (Treasurer), Kate Eltringham (Booking Officer), Noel Eltringham (Vice President), Robyne Tinlin (Stores), Marie O’Brien, Anna Kirton and Madeline Obst.

Booking System

Bookings for each year from Annual General Meeting to the day prior to Queens Birthday weekend of the following year opened at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) which for 2018 is on 24 March.

Bookings are progressing well and there are now substantial bookings in July, August and early September.

New Limited Members and Limited Members who did not use the lodge in the previous year are required to complete a Limited Member Application Form and return it with their booking form and payment.

Please Note: Bookings without payment will be held for SEVEN DAYS ONLY and must be paid within that time. If payment does not occur the booking WILL BE CANCELLED. The onus is on the person making the booking to expedite the booking NOT the Booking Officer.

Any alteration to bookings has to be done through the Booking Officer. The Booking Officer will maintain a wait list for all types of bookings and where a booking is not paid for or contravenes the booking rules the booking officer is able to re-allocate that room to a person(s) on the wait list.

Falls Creek Insiders Guide 2018

Whilst summer activities on the mountain are winding down and preparation for winter is now in earnest there are still a wealth of activities you can undertake at Falls Creek.

For a full list of summer activities go to the Falls Creek Resort Management web site at

Major maintenance items completed or planned prior to 2018 ski season include:

  • Replacement of cracked double glazed windows in the dining room and room 9 have recently been installed.
  • Painting the outside of the lodge has started and had to await the completion of the installation of new windows.
  • Replacement of the toilet bowl in room 9.

Site Lease Renewal
The current lease for Bogong Ski Club is due to expire in 2027.
  • On the basis of advice received from FCRM an application for renewal of the lease could be favourably received whilst the current administration was in power in Victoria.
  • It is the intent of committee to commence work for the renewal of the club lease now rather than leave it to the last minute before the current lease runs out.
  • The committee would like the views of membership on what works should accompany the lease renewal application. The existing lease covers the existing building footprint plus 5 metres of vacant land at the east end of the building (Falls Creek Hotel end).
  • Whilst the club will be constrained by budget there is scope for major refurbishment of the existing building plus a possibility of extension into the existing lease area.
  • An expansion on to the land to the south behind the lodge would require an expansion of the lease area that could be opened to public tender.
  • It is intended that the collected views of members are to be gathered by the end of the 2018 ski season.
  • The club has already received advice that the BSC building remained in good repair and still had a good operational life.
